Back to School 2020-2021

ISA’s ‘back to school’ plan has been developed based on survey results, recommendations from the CDC, and ISA’s knowledge of practices gleaned from recent discussions with other international schools.

PK Classes Have Started on Campus on August 10th, 2020

ISA’s PK teachers, assistants and staff were so happy to welcome our preschoolers back to the classroom.

checkin

The following safety measures are in place:

  • Morning arrival check-in that includes temperature checks and health screening questions. Additionally, student’s hands are disinfected prior to entering the building.
  • Parents drop off their children at the entrance and ISA teachers/staff will accompany each child to their classroom.
  • All entrances have sanitization mats that are designed to remove debris and germs from shoes.
  • Installation of HEPA-grade air filters in all classrooms and community spaces.
  • Class sizes are a maximum of 18 children to allow for social distancing — N.B. Classes generally only have 10-12 children.
  • When students leave the classroom for recess, surfaces are disinfected.
  • Implementation of a cleaning schedule for all large surfaces (stair handrails, doorknobs, etc.) to be disinfected 2-4 times a day as appropriate.
  • Children will remain with their class and will not mix with other children throughout the day, allowing ISA to be able to identify and notify families in case of exposure or potential illness.
  • The playground is divided into separate areas and the children will rotate throughout the week to those different areas.

Kindergarten Classes Have Started with a Hybrid Model on August 10th, 2020

ISA offers families of students in Kindergarten the option to return in person or to remain at home with a distance learning program.

For students returning to school, the same safety measures as mentioned above are in place.

For students at home, ISA has invested in interactive technology that is designed to create a virtual learning environment that reflects and allows remote interaction directly with what’s happening in the classroom. With this technology, students at home are able to speak, ask questions and participate as if they are in the classroom.

Grades 1 to 8 Have Started with a Hybrid Model on August 17th, 2020

ISA offers families of students in Grades 1 through 8 the option to return in person or to remain at home with a distance learning program.

For students returning to school, the same safety measures as mentioned above are in place, with the exception of accompanying children to their classrooms. Middle School students walk themselves to the classroom.

For students chosing the remote learning program, ISA has invested in interactive technology that is designed to create a virtual learning environment that reflects and allows remote interaction directly with what’s happening in the classroom. With this technology, students at home are able to speak, ask questions and participate as if they are in the classroom.

IF A STUDENT BECOMES ILL AT SCHOOL, as per the CDC guidelines, she/he will be isolated from the group and parents will be contacted immediately. Parents must arrive to pick their child up within 60 minutes and must make an assessment about their child’s condition, i.e. visit the doctor to rule out infection. If and when there is a positive COVID test result, an alert via text will go out to the class parents and the staff. The classroom will then be closed down from 2 to 5 days depending on the situation.
