Program Spotlight: Pre-K

Learning a second language at an early age has tremendous benefits. At the International School of Arizona, we ensure that our young students receive the best quality of education, starting at 18 months. Read our article below to learn more about our pre-K program and how it aims to improve your child’s bilingualism.

Who is The International School of Arizona?

For over 20 years, our school has been one of Arizona’s premier accredited French and Spanish immersion programs that ready children for a bilingual future. Our community is made up of a diverse, experienced staff dedicated to meeting parents’ high academic standards for their children’s education. Additionally, the International School of Arizona is the only DELE examination center in the State of Arizona.

The Pre-K Program is Designed to Educate the Whole Child

The ISA pre-K program sets the foundations for reading, writing, and problem-solving while building the initial steps for understanding the target language. Our teachers are native speakers and only use the target language during everyday activities. Our pre-k program consists of four groups:

●        PK1: 18 months – 2 years old

●        PK2: 2 – 3 years old

●        PK3: 3 – 4 years old

●        PK4: 4 – 5 years old

What Does the Pre-K Program Entail?

In addition to teaching students in a second language, we develop fundamental skills such as gross and fine motor skills. It’s been shown that a language education enhances students’ cognitive skills such as the ability to concentrate, control behavior, and effectively analyze and communicate. A child’s early years are some of the most positive and fun, which is why we try to make every aspect of our program as engaging as possible.

The ISA pre-K program is organized into 6 domains:

  1. Oral Language in all its Dimensions
  2. Expressing and Understanding through Physical Activity
  3. Expressing and Understanding through Artistic Activity
  4. Building the First Tools to Structural Thinking
  5. Discovering the World
  6. Living Together

A Consistent Schedule for Pre-K Students

Our daily schedule includes center-based instruction, which encourages cooperative learning while building pre-academic skills with hands-on activities. A typical day consists of children participating in large and small group activities, games, free play, songs, stories, and naps for those in PK1, PK2, and PK3. We also offer a structured curriculum and follow a traditional school calendar for all students beginning at age 18 months.
